In America, the early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the prodigy child category. But for a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended family, these traits came as a normal. Maureen joined this wonderful refuge within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed the business of Dublin as well as owned a part of the famous Irish soccer club "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a fan of rough sports as an infant and was extremely proficient at them. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural gift of performing. Her winning of almost all Feis awards for her native nation's theatre and drama is a testimony to the fact that she was a natural performer. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she pursued her dreams of operatic and classical singing and theater.
